Kikuji Kawada – Cosmos of the Dream King (1979)

Kawada went to Germany to document the grounds and interiors of Bavarian King Ludwig II’s Schloss Neuschwanstein castle. This building inspired dozens of stories (Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland, also very well known in Japan through Saint Seya and One Piece series) and follows the idea of the photographer already started in Sacré Atavism (1971). Dreams and terror tales can be found here, and the view of Kawada creates a special visit to the castle.

Kikuji Kawada was part of VIVO and a big influence for history of photography with the photobook “Map”. This book was the number 24 of the amazing photobook series called Sonorama shashin sensho, published between 1977-1980 in 27 volumes.
