Nobuyoshi Araki – Kids (2005)

Before he became Japan’s most notorious photographer, known for decades of provocative nudes, kinbaku bondage portraits, and flower-and-flesh still lifes, Nobuyoshi Araki was a young amateur pointing his camera at the children of his own Tokyo neighborhood. “Kids” collects that formative body of work, shot around 1962 while Araki was still a student. It stands as one of the earliest projects of a career that would eventually span over 500 published photobooks, cementing him as Japan’s most prolific and most debated photographic artist.
