Keizo Kitajima – European Diary 1983-1984 (2019)
€70,00
Keizo Kitajima didn’t feel he was a photographer yet back in 1983 and most of the pictures of this book weren’t published before because of this and were stored for so long. Kitajima had plans to exhibit the results of this European Diary in 1984 but probably this was the cause why the book wasn’t released before. 35 years after he finally feel he is a photographer, and who could doubt about this when he is one of the most known figures in the contemporary photography.
The book that we present here was a travel Kitajima did in Europe in 1983 and 1984 visiting several cities and taking hundreds of pictures. The gritty black and white of every picture and the Provoke contrast probably comes from the work of Daido Moriyama, who influenced the author since he was so young. Visiting spaces where he felt a stranger he was able to take pictures of both sides of the Iron Curtain, showing from an external point of view the daily life on the two sides of the occidental world in the same year, making them comparable.
