Mariano Guindal & Juan H. Giménez – El libro negro de Vitoria (1976)

During 1976 a strike suppressed by the police in Vitoria, in the north of the Iberian Peninsula, ends with several deaths and many firearm wounds. The crisis occured during process that started just after Franco died. The workers protested because their salaries weren’t matching the rise of prices, they were working more than 42h per week and didn’t have paid vacations. The third general strike mobilized more than 18.000 workers in the area of Araba, and the repression was brutal. Five workers died: Pedro María Martínez Ocio, Romualdo Barroso Chaparro, Francisco Aznar Clemente, José Castillo García and Bienvenido Pereda Moral, and more than a hundred were wounded.

This book explains every event and the context of this strike, and also features a good amount of photographs even being a text book. Barricades, bloody streets, the police prepared and the workers defending their rights.
