Oki Yone & Tadao Mitome – Memories of the Old Lady of Sanrizuka (1974)

The story of Oki Yone is an amazing example of incredible strength and class conscience. When the Narita airport was being built she was the last one to abandone her field and house, that were in the area where the airport is now. She protected them throwing miso soup to the riot police and fought with everything she had, she didn’t need too much besides a strong soul and the community to keep her space alive for some time. Besides her story (totally in Japanese) this book features the always inspiring photographs of Tadao Mitome, one of the brightest examples of conscious photo journalism in Sanrizuka. Most of the book is text! Only in the end there’s 65 pictures, mostly showing Oki Yone, the fights of Sanrizuka and the life and work of the farmers there.
