Xavier Miserachs – Barcelone en blanc et noir (1965)

Before the Olympics nobody cared about Barcelona, only some of their inhabitants. In the 50s, photographers like Xavier Miserachs (or Terré and Masats) started a revolution in the photography art. They developed their styles influenced by figures like Willliam Klein or Francesc Català-Roca, and started to use Sala Aixelà as a place of reunion, an oasis of modern views in a totally dead cultural environment. Leaving behind the pictorialist influences and other remnants of past times that the regime were supporting, they were able to photograph the city in a way nobody did before. The result for Miserachs was this book, Barcelona in black and white, more than 350 pictures put together with long texts that explain every detail.

First French edition, translation of “Barcelona en blanc i negre”, published the previous year in Barcelona. Condition: Good. Some yellowish pages, the spine of the dustcover has been exposed to the sun and lost some color. Interiors are generally fine, no missing pages, broken parts or annotations.
