This is the only book that has been preserved with original work by Joan Colom and also what made him stop taking pictures for more than 20 years. Colom was not a professional photographer, but he was part of the known Barcelona scene of photographers from the 60s that renewed the way photography was being used as a visual way of communication. His images show a city that already disappeared, specially a neighborhood (Barrio Chino, now called Raval after its gentrification process) and their streets, focusing on the workers of the area. The selection of this series was only about sex work in the streets of the old Barcelona. When this series was published with the texts of the novelist Camilo José Cela some people who appeared on the pictures considered the words used extremely insulting and a person who appeared in several pictures decided to sue Joan Colom for this work. This person didn’t even go to the first call of the trial so the process was stopped there, but Colom had enough and decided to quit the public space and keep taking pictures as a complete amateur and for himself.

Joan Colom received the National Price of Photography of Spain in 2002.
